Worse vocal recording quality when switching from Audacity to Reaper - any ideas?

Hey all!

I'm a poet who transitioned into doing some rapping over the last couple of years and I've bitten the bullet now to learn a new DAW for my primary recording environment and Reaper really appeals to me so I've begun watching tutorial videos, playing around in it, etc.

My problem is, with the exact same hardware setup, my recordings in Reaper are turning out at a noticeably lower quality vocal output when I listen back after recording than when I do them in Audacity.

I am recording with a Rode NT1-A and using a Scarlett 2i4 as my sound card/interface.

In Audacity, the driver protocol I've been using is listed as MME, which is not listed in Reaper, so I've been trying ASIO, WASAPI, and ASIO4ALL in Reaper as my original searches about this problem on this forum lead me to believe those were the best choices, but when I solo a recorded vocal track the clarity just seems a *little* bit off compared to the same recording (mic setup, physical environment, etc.) used in Audacity.

This is very odd and obviously quite an issue. I have also noticed that, despite the monitoring levels saying the same db, recordings I put into Reaper seem to play back a little louder.

With WASAPI and some EQ work I have got something that sounds decent now, but I would like to have the same quality in starting point that I do when recording the same clip in Audacity.

I saw similar questions but no solution that *quite* hit this issue on the head, so I did search before asking and this is why I ultimately decided to post this.

Obviously I think my workflow and speed could be improved a lot by swapping to Reaper, but if I can't get the recordings to sound clear going in that's obviously a big problem.

Thanks in advance for anyone who has any input here, I really appreciate it!
