I have lots of hardware MIDI devices. I don't have 64 of them, but some of the newer ones generate more than one MIDI port when connected to the computer via USB. Reaper has a MIDI port limit of less than 64. This isn't a limit on the number of ports enabled in Preferences->Audio->MIDI Devices, it is a limit on the total number of ports connected to the OS!
Basically, this means some MIDI devices becomes unusable for me, and since Windows is weird in the order in which it connects the ports, which ports get dropped by Reaper are random. There is no warning, those ports will just not show up in any Reaper connection list. It does not matter if I have only a few ports actually enabled in Reaper.
Is there no workaround (other than physically connecting/disconnecting devices)? I can't even use a software MIDI aggregator to combine multiple ports into a single one, since that will only further increase the port count as seen by Reaper.
v5.23 on Windows 10 x64 BTW.
Edit: It just occurred to me that I don't know for sure if Windows itself has some sort of limit on the number of MIDI devices. Would appreciate any information. I recently connected a device (iConnectMIDI4+) that added a boat load of MIDI devices with no way to turn it off, so it sent me over the edge on the device count.
