Editing the RPP and template files

I need to edit the RPP files with a 3rd party editor so I can fix the plugins use and also edit the template files.
I need to know 1.) where the template files are on a MAC
and 2.) Can I use a regular TEXT editor or spreadsheet pgm?

Once I know how to do this I can get my old project files and strip what plugins were problematic on loading and at least work with it.
