I just downloaded and started using Reaper two days ago. I have a Roland Duo Capture interface and have been using Sonar x1 LE which came with roland. Too bad I cant add plug-ins to sonar because of its limited version. So I found Reaper but instantly had a problem. I started Reaper and opened its pdf manual at the same time. By the time I was learning my laptop was suddenly frozen and I started moving and clicking the mouse randomly (not very wise). After one or two minutes it started working but I had an ASIO warning, I think it was something like cant use ASIO driver. I opened the preferences but couldnt see or select roland in/outs in ASIO. I tried Direct out for in/outs but there was great latency. Then I opened up Sonar but it also wouldnt work properly because again there was no ASIO.
I tried fixing things with windows control panel but accidently removed roland output and there was completely no sound. Finally I had to make a system restore and now there is no problem along with no Reaper. And Im scared to install it again in case of a similar problem but I need it. Can somebody please tell me what caused this and how to avoid it again. By the way Im using Windows 8 64-bit
