Hi
Reaper 5.22 and 5.24Pre1
VST SDK 3.6.6
For developing VST3 plugins, Steinberg recommends using the WYSIWYG editor that is supposed to be built into VST3 hosts - their documentation says "start any VST3 host and open an instance of your plugin..." at which point you get a menu item that says
"Open UI Description Editor"
In older versions of Reaper, this did nothing, however in 5.22 and 5.24Pre1 it causes a crash. This happens with the SDK3.6.6 sample code built with the VSTGUI_LIVE_EDITING preprocessor definition set (debug versions).
I was wondering if you were planning on addressing and implementing this in future versions? I am not sure if this functionality is an absolute requirement to be a VST3 host. I had assumed that this was something they implemented and gave out to VST3 host developers (it certainly isn't in the "hosting" folder of the SDK). Personally, I do not like their WYSIWYG editor and prefer using the one built into my software. But there are some developers who refuse to use anything but the sample code and built-in SDK functionality and see 3rd party stuff as somehow generating a product that is "not a true VST3 plugin" or something that will cause other bugs to creep in (I fully understand the latter argument).
So this is more of a "just curious if you're going to implement it later" question more than anything else. I am trying to get more people to use Reaper for testing their VST3 plugins.
All the best,
Will
