Hey guys,
I've been using Reaper for a while, but I had a couple of months break and also moved to a different apartment. Finally life settled down and I tried to record something again and I came back to some annoying crackling.
All the equipment is still the same that I had before.
I tried playing a virtual instrument (piano, with MIDI controller) - got crackling.
Recorded some acoustic guitar - got crackling when playing it back (not always in the same places, so the crackles are not recorded)
Later, I noticed that I also get crackling when playing youtube videos, spotify, etc... (outside of reaper) but it's much less frequent so I didn't notice before.
I though my interface had shit the bed, so I unplugged it and tried playing the guitar audio I recorded in Reaper back with 'audio system' set to "DirectSound" in audio settings and the crackling was still there. So I guess I can conclude that it's not the interface.
I'm using a Lenovo T430, it worked fine before but it is 4 years old at this point, so do you think it's the laptop? How can I make some conclusions before I jump the shark and spend a lot of money on a new computer?
If it's the laptops fault, how come I still hear crackling when the interface is plugged in? I thought all of the audio processing was taking place in the interface.. that's what it's for isn't it? I don't really know very well how all this stuff works, so that's why I'm asking this. I want to get a better understanding of what is going on.
Also: tried changing the buffer size, and there is a difference, but it's unacceptable.
Thank you very much for your input!
